Call 811 Before You Dig

Overview

Before beginning any digging project in Texas, it is important to check for underground utility lines. Whether you are planting a tree, installing a fence, or starting a construction project, there is a high chance that utility lines may be buried in the area. Damaging these lines can cause serious injuries, service interruptions, or costly repairs.

What You Need to Know

Texas law requires everyone to contact 811 before digging. This free service helps identify where underground utility lines are located so you can dig safely.

How to get started:
• Call 811 at least two business days before you plan to dig.
• Use the Texas 811 Homeowner Portal to submit an online request.
• Wait for utility companies to mark the locations of underground lines.
• Once the area is marked, you can dig safely.
