Overview
The City of Georgetown Water Utility is committed to providing safe, high-quality drinking water. Recent EPA regulations set new limits for PFAS chemicals to protect public health, and we are taking steps to meet these standards.
About PFAS
- PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) are man-made chemicals found in many household and industrial products since the 1950s.
EPA Requirements
- The EPA issued new PFAS regulations on April 10, 2024. Water systems must begin monitoring by 2027 and meet compliance standards by 2029.
Georgetown’s Actions

Began PFAS testing in 2023 through the EPA’s monitoring program.

Partnered with Freese & Nichols in 2025 to identify the best treatment method for the San Gabriel Water Treatment Plant.

Continuing to test and evaluate filtration technologies to meet or exceed EPA standards.
