Are cats allowed to run freely?

Category: Police Department

Cat Ownership & Public Nuisance Regulations

It is a violation of city ordinance for any cat to roam freely if it has not been licensed, spayed/neutered, or vaccinated against rabies.

Free-roaming cats that cause a nuisance while off their owner's property are also in violation of city ordinance. These animals may be impounded, and owners may be subject to fines.

Additionally, pet owners must not allow animals to damage, soil, defile, or defecate on private property (other than their own) unless the waste is immediately removed and properly disposed of.

To report a violation, please contact Animal Control at 512-930-3510, option 6.
