Reporting a Dog in a Hot Car

Overview

Dogs left in hot vehicles can quickly face life-threatening conditions, even on mild days. If you see a dog in a car that may be in distress, follow these steps to report it immediately.

Steps to Report

  • Note Vehicle Details
Write down the make, model, color, and license plate number, as well as the exact location of the vehicle.

  • Describe the Dog
Observe the dog’s condition—such as panting, drooling, or showing signs of distress—and be ready to share this information.

  • Call Police Dispatch
Dial 512-930-3510 and select Option 6 for Animal Control assistance.

Important Tip

Please keep a safe distance from the vehicle. Standing too close can cause the dog additional stress.
