Rehoming pets

Category: Uncategorized

We work very hard to maintain No Kill status. However, when we run out of kennel space difficult decisions must be made and owner surrendered pets are most at-risk. Please be advised that our shelter may be at capacity with no available kennels.

Due to high animal intake requests, surrender appointments are being scheduled out approximately 4 weeks in advance.

We ask that you make every effort to rehome your pet and be involved in their placement into a new home.

Here are some resources for rehoming your pet:

• Ask family, friends, and co-workers if they will take your pet.

• If you obtained your pet through another shelter, rescue group, or breeder, contact them to
see if they will accept it back.

• Rehome your pet through Adopt-a-Pet.

• Network your pet on social media sites like Facebook, Nextdoor, and X.

• Contact local rescue groups. Rescue groups can be found through an internet search or by
checking Austin Animal Center's Rescue List.

• Join Austin Pets Alive Positive Alternatives to Shelter Surrender (PASS Program) page to
network your pet.
