Historic Preservation Projects

Overview

Georgetown takes pride in preserving the character and history of its downtown and historic districts. If you are planning a project within these areas, specific guidelines and review processes help ensure preservation standards are met.

Projects located within Georgetown’s historic overlay districts are reviewed by the City’s Historic Planning staff to ensure compliance with the Unified Development Code and the Historic District Design Guidelines.

Reviews take place through the Certificate of Appropriateness (COA) application process, which may require approval from:

  • The Historic Preservation Officer (HPO)

  • The Historic and Architectural Review Commission (HARC)

For full details, visit the Historic Preservation site, where you’ll find application materials, guidelines, and additional resources.
