Heritage Trees

Overview

Heritage Trees are protected due to their size, species, and community value. They play an important role in preserving the natural beauty and character of Georgetown.

A Heritage Tree is defined as having a diameter at breast height (DBH) of 26 inches or larger and belonging to one of the following species:

  • Live Oak

  • Post Oak

  • Shumard Oak

  • Bur Oak

  • Chinquapin Oak

  • Monterey Oak

  • Bald Cypress

  • American Elm

  • Cedar Elm

  • Pecan

  • Walnut

  • Texas Ash

  • Southern Magnolia

In addition, the City Council may designate any tree of historical importance or significant community benefit as a Heritage Tree.

To ensure protection, removal or pruning of Heritage Trees requires review and approval.
