How do I report a downed electric line or pole?
Report a Downed Power Line Safely
Downed power lines are dangerous and should always be treated as live. Follow the safety steps below to protect yourself and others, and report the issue immediately to the appropriate emergency or utility contact.
Power Line Safety Tips
-
Stay at least 50 feet away from downed power lines and anything touching them, including trees, fences, or vehicles.
-
Never touch a person or object in contact with a power line. Call 911 immediately.
-
Move away from the area by shuffling with small steps to reduce the risk of electric shock.
-
Never connect a generator directly to your home’s wiring. Improper generator use can create back feed and seriously injure utility crews.
