What do the sound of outdoor sirens indicate?

Understanding Outdoor Siren Alerts

Overview

The City’s outdoor warning sirens are used to warn people who are outdoors to seek shelter inside immediately.

  •  There are a total of 23 outdoor warning sirens, and they are activated to warn of severe weather or other emergencies such as a hazardous chemical incident.
  • Monthly testing is conducted on the first Saturday of each month at 11 am with two back-to-back 60 second activations. A growl test, similar to the monthly test but shorter, is sounded each Saturday.
