Does my address fall within the water service area transfer zone?
Overview
The City of Georgetown created our municipal water utility to provide water to Georgetown residents, but the utility now serves a 400-square-mile territory that extends far beyond our ETJ and into the future growth areas of several neighboring cities.
To better plan for future growth and manage the rising costs of water and infrastructure, the City is exploring the sale of most of the utility’s service area located outside of Georgetown’s city limits and ETJ.
No one will lose access to water, and the City is committed to working closely with our neighbors to try to find an outcome that is beneficial for all. Georgetown will continue to serve all customers within its city limits and ETJ.
We’re still early in this process, which is expected to take at least two years. Any sale would need to be approved by voters in a City election, as well as by the Texas Public Utility Commission.
