How does my local government protect our community from new laws?

Intergovernmental Affairs Program

Overview

The City of Georgetown works to represent and support its residents when decisions are made by higher levels of government, including the Texas State Legislature and the United States Congress.

Some laws and policies can benefit cities, while others may create challenges. For this reason, Georgetown stays informed and involved in state and federal issues that may affect the community.

The City’s Intergovernmental Affairs Program helps by:

  • Monitoring proposed laws and policy changes

  • Communicating Georgetown’s needs and priorities

  • Collaborating with elected officials, agencies, and community partners

  • Supporting the City’s ability to make local decisions

This work helps Georgetown continue providing essential services such as public safety, transportation, infrastructure, and parks.

By staying engaged and working with partners, the City helps ensure that the voices of Georgetown residents are represented.
