Do I Need a Sign Permit in Georgetown?
Sign Permits in Georgetown
Overview
The City of Georgetown requires permits for most signs to keep them safe, visible, and in the right locations. These rules apply inside the city and nearby areas under city control (ETJ).
Putting up a sign
Before putting up a sign, businesses and property owners must follow city rules for design, placement, construction, and maintenance.
Permit applications are submitted online. They may cover permanent signs, temporary banners, and other sign types. Temporary event signs have separate rules.
Some areas, like Historic districts, the Downtown Overlay, and the Old Town Overlay, may need extra approval.
After an application is accepted and paid, permanent sign reviews take about 14–25 business days. Approved permits are emailed to the applicant. Some signs also require inspections, which must be scheduled online before 3:00 p.m. for the next business day.
